Export quota
If you want to take fish out of Norway when you leave, there are rules about how much you can export and who is allowed to export fish.
Rules for exporting fish from Norway
Only tourists aged 12 or older who fish through a registered fishing camp may export fish from Norway.
The export quota is 15 kg of fish or fish products. You may use the quota twice per calendar year.
You cannot export trophy fish in addition to the export quota.
These rules do not apply to salmon, trout, char, or other freshwater species.
From 1 January 2027, the export quota will be reduced to 10 kg, twice per calendar year.
Documentation requirements
When exporting fish, tourist fishers must document that the fishing took place through a registered fishing camp.
The export document must include:
- Name, date of birth, and home address of the person exporting the fish
- Name, business address, and organization number of the registered fishing business
- Period of stay and fishing period
- Date of issue
- Name, contact details, and signature of the person responsible for the business
The people named in the document must be present when the fish is taken out of Norway.
Group documentation is not allowed.
